Summer Reading Challenge

Saturday 5 July to Saturday 13 September.

If you want to ensure your child continues their reading journey over the summer holidays then look no further than the Summer Reading Challenge.

The theme this year is ‘Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors’. This exciting new theme will inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature.

To celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge, Egham library are holding the following events:

Diorama craft

Tuesday 22 July, from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Make a garden themed diorama.

Cost: £2 per child.

Suitable for children 5 years and above. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Caterpillar and butterfly craft

Thursday 24 July, from 2pm to 3pm.

Make a wriggly caterpillar and a beautiful butterfly.

Cost: £1 per child.

Suitable for children 5 years and above. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Mini Beasts - Who lives in your garden?

Tuesday 29 July, from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Join Nature Makers to listen to the story Mad about Mini Beasts. Create a bug hotel and make a leaf mini beast collage and receive a certificate.

Cost £2 per child. Tickets must be purchased in advance from Egham Library.

Suitable for children aged 4 years and above. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Pebble rhymetime and storytime

Pebble rhymetime

Every Thursday from 10.30am until 11am

Every Saturday from 11am until 11.30am.

No booking required.

Storytime

Every Wednesday from 10.30am to 11am.

No booking required. Suitable for children 5 years and under.

Afternoon storytime

Every Wednesday, from 3.45pm to 4.15pm.

No booking required. Suitable for children aged 4 to 9 years old.

Meets Tuesdays from 2.30pm until 3.30pm. Next meeting:

Meets Tuesdays from 10.30am. Next meeting: 5 August.

Spaces available. Please speak to a member of staff in the library if you would like to join this group.

Chat and craft reading friends group

Every Tuesday 10am until 12 noon

Come and join our friendly group to work on your current craft project while chatting, reading and sharing stories.

We use reading to start everyone talking! Helping people to meet new friends and have fun with the aim of combatting loneliness and social isolation.

Teen Reading group

Meets monthly on Tuesdays from 4pm until 4.45pm.

On the following dates: 8 July. The group will take a break for the summer. Dates for next term will be added once confirmed.

Suitable for ages 12 to 16.


Junior Chatterbooks group

Meets monthly on Tuesdays from 4pm until 4.45pm.

On the following dates: : 15 July.

The junior group has spaces available for children aged from 8 to 11 years. New members are welcome, please speak to a member of staff in the library.

Other events

Meet the beat

Come and speak with your local policing team at Egham Library on Tuesdays from 10am to 12 noon. Upcoming dates:

  • 15 July
  • 26 August
  • 23 September

Boards, cards and dice evenings

First Tuesday of the month from 7pm until 9pm.

A social event for adults who enjoy playing board, card and dice games. Free to attend.

Lego club.

Saturday from 3pm to 4pm on the following dates: 19 July.

Cost £1 per child.

Suitable for children age 5+. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Drop in session, no need to book.

Junior craft club

Saturdays from 2pm to 3pm on the following dates: 12 July, Felt puppet craft.

Suitable for children aged 6 and above, Children must be accompanied by an adult

Cost £1 per child.

Drop in sessions, no booking required.

Chess club

Every Saturday from 10am until 11am

Suitable for ages 7 to 11 who have an understanding of the rules of Chess and are able to play.

Parents are required to stay in the library during sessions. The event is free, however, spaces are limited and a waiting list system will be in place so booking is essential.

Egham library coffee morning

Every Friday, from 10.30am to 12 noon.

Come and meet new people and enjoy a chat over a cup of coffee or tea.

No need to book. Admission free.

Digital support volunteer

Every Thursday 10am to 12 noon.

The session is a Drop In, however slots can be booked in advance if needed. Please speak to member of library staff for more details.
