Course intent

Explore a range of surface decoration techniques using coloured clays (slips) to enhance form, design, texture, colour, and style.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to

  • create a design
  • use colour in your design and about how slips change colour when they are fired
  • apply slip to leather hard work on rolled out slabs
  • Use different techniques
  • Create a personal piece of work

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

All Abilities

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Wear old clothes, bring an apron and either a notebook and pen, or other means of recording findings. Materials and firings are included in the course fee.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Progress onto another longer Pottery course. Choose from Stage 1 - This stage is for learners who are new to their chosen subject area. With the focus on introducing individuals to basic materials, tools, and techniques, and to inspire confidence in creative expression.

Stage 2 - Suitable for learners who have completed stage 1 and would like to gain more experience and refine their skills within their chosen subject area. The focus will be on developing more control and proficiency in practice and learning and completing more complex projects.

Stage 3 - Suitable for learners on completion of level 2 who would like to progress and gain a solid understanding of their subject. The focus will be on mastering more intricate techniques and creating more complex, finished projects. Your tutor can help you with this if you ask
