Pottery & Claywork - Throwing & Turning Workshop

Course intent

This workshop is designed for beginners or those looking to refine their throwing skills on the potter's wheel. You will learn the foundational techniques needed to create a successful pot, including centring the clay, throwing a basic shape, and altering forms. Throughout the workshop, you will receive personalized instruction, demonstrations, and constructive feedback to build confidence in your pottery-making abilities.

What will I learn?

You Will Learn How To:

  • Wedge the Clay: Learn the importance of properly preparing clay before throwing, including techniques for removing air bubbles and ensuring consistency.
  • Centre the Clay on the Wheel: Master the technique of centring clay on the wheel, an essential skill to make your pots uniform and stable.
  • Make a Basic Cylinder: Begin by learning how to throw a simple cylinder, the foundation for many pottery forms.
  • Alter the Shape: Once you’ve created the basic cylinder, practice altering its form to create more complex shapes and designs.
  • Build Confidence with Throwing: As you practice, you will gain greater control and precision, increasing your confidence in your ability to throw.
