Singing in a choir is a vital part of a musician's training, development and growth. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Youth Choir (SYC) is a full SATB choir (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) with singers aged 12 and above, who sing pieces as varied as the works of Mozart, to modern day pop.
As a member of SYC, students experience different opportunities such as performing in three to four concerts a year, including with other ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Arts ensembles, at stunning venues. Many students become part of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain as well as taking other exciting directions and going on to further professional singing opportunities.
Conductor Jonathan Lucas Wood, who is an experienced, dynamic choral conductor, tenor and vocal coach says 'the choir is open to everybody. We want to encourage people of all abilities to join and develop at their own pace. Primarily, fun is the key of everything we do'.
The choir rehearses each Wednesday evening during term time at Westfield School, Woking from 6.45pm to 9pm. No audition is required and the first session is free to new members.
For any young person who wants to join, the cost is £100 per term. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Arts advanced ensemble members can join at no extra cost and it is only £19 per term for area ensemble members.
Financial assistance is available from ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Arts and the Cheryl King Trust.
